Save the kitties! Help The Rescue House earn a $10,000 @Petco Grant!

I need your help readers. My dear friend Lianne from high school sent me a message on Facebook today, asking for me to ask you to do something very simple.

Vote for The Rescue House, a non-profit, all volunteer-based organization dedicated to assisting cats through its rescue, foster and adoption activities to receive a $10,000 grant from Petco.

Simple right?

UPDATED: They are in 9th place with a slim lead! Your vote is still very important. PLEASE VOTE FOR THESE KITTIES!

There are 10 grants, and currently The Rescue House is in 11th place. Which means we just need you to vote for them once a day until Friday, October 5th at 12noon EDT/

PLEASE VOTE HERE

The Rescue House

We’re in 10th place, with 11th less than 30 votes behind us. We just need to be in the top 10 to get a $10,000 grant from the Petco Foundation. We’ve been staying strong all the way through the contest, but as we get down to the wire it’s looking scary.

A “like” of the Petco Foundation is required before the voting link will be accessible. We’ve learned that the voting platform is incompatible with mobile phones, but otherwise it’s worked well.

Even just a few votes will make a huge difference at this point. It’s that close!

In case you are wondering how my friend Lianne is involved, she takes the most gorgeous photos of these sweet cats at The Rescue House to help them get adopted. If I was in San Diego, I’d be in trouble – want to save them all!

Thank you, Angela! We’ve hung in there for 3+ weeks consistently in the top 10… we just need to withstand the final push. :-)

I sure hope we do… so so close between 7th and 11th place. Thank you for voting! We’re six votes apart from the closest organization, so it’s no joke that every vote makes a big difference.

Thank you, Paula! Actually we do get considerable support on a regular basis from the Petco Foundation. They donate all of the high-quality (grain-free) food, litter, and cardboard scratchers to the cats who are housed in the Petco adoption centers. Saves us a lot and means we can feed good food to the cats. Pretty much all money we take in goes directly to vet bills since we don’t have a building (and thus no overhead costs). Also, if Rescue House takes in a cat that’s been abandoned at a Petco store (which happens far too frequently), the Foundation helps with the vet costs for that specific cat. I presume they do the same for the other organizations who adopt out of Petco. Petco may be a corporation, but their charity side has been very good to us. As is always the case in rescue, though, there are more animals in need than those who can help. But we try! That’s how I got involved two years ago: I found a stray cat, got him into Rescue House and rehomed… and I stayed. =)

A huge thank you to everyone who voted… we did it! :D :D We stayed in the thick of it all until the very end and landed in 10th place, which means we get one of the ten $10,000 grants! We would have been 9th except a dark horse organization zoomed up out of nowhere… but they didn’t bump us out of the top 10. However, there is no way that we would have been able to hang on if it hadn’t been for you. Seriously. Voting was so tight that every single vote made a huge difference and if Kerri hadn’t reached out with this post and her efforts across her contacts we would have missed the mark. Thank you from me, from all the volunteers at Rescue House, and especially from the kitties who will be saved and find loving families because you cared.
