I wouldn’t go so far as to say we are struggling with potty training or bedwetting in our house. I’ve learned with being the mother of two special needs children you have to sort of go with the flow. I love that there are products designed to make my life a little easier and also give my children more confidence as they learn.
Potty training Sebby
Sebby isn’t a typical kid, his sensory issues make potty training a real challenge at times.
During the day, we do the typical things everyone says to do, frequent trips to the potty- lots of praise and encouragement – and we’re doing pretty well. He spends a lot of time on the potty with his iPad or magnet board. it seems to work! Sebby is dry more often than not, and that’s really great. We’re really almost there for him when it comes to learning to use the potty without a lot of guidance.
But then there’s night time.
We’ve been limiting drinks for about an hour before bedtime, and we make him use the potty before he puts his jammies on for the night, and it really helps. Accidents still happen, and waking up with wet jammies and wet sheets isn’t pleasant for anyone.
I’ve heard a lot about GoodNites Bed Mats as a solution for Sebby. The thing is though, he stil sleeps all over his mattress, so they aren’t quite practical for him yet. We hope they’ll be a future solution for him though. In the meantime though, I showed him the GoodNites Bedtime Underwear I picked up at Target earlier this week. He immediately noticed that they had a truck on them – and he seemed to like that they looked like regular underwear, a real plus!
I’m really hoping that GoodNites mean good mornings for Sebby, and that it helps him with getting that final success we need!
