Not so long ago, I received several press releases for new iRig products from IK Multimedia. Knowing I couldn’t give it the justice they deserved in a review, I reached out to Tony, the husband of our safety writer since he’s a musician. He’s been using the iRig Mic for a little over a week now, and shared his feedback with me.

iRig Mic

I was totally stoked when I was asked to review the iRig Mic. Since I am a singer/songwriter and I use both an iPAD and an iMAC, I was excited to put the IRig Mic to use. The iRig Mic includes three free applications that are very easy to install and use. Those applications are Amplitube, Vocal Live, and iRecorder. Amplitube is a guitar based application which allows you to use different guitar effects, all of which can be tweaked, and create user banks based on the effects that you prefer to use at any given time. Vocal Live is a vocal effects processor / recording program. You can use Vocal Live to get different vocal effects all of which can be tweaked as well for both live sound and recording. I am super excited to use this application for live performances as it will allow me the opportunity to create an atmosphere through the effects that you cannot with clean toned vocals! This application can also be used to record and create samples for live performances as well. iRecorder is a basic recording program that I would use while writing new material. A very simple program making it easy to record live sounds such as vocal parts, acoustic guitar parts, etc.

Now let’s get to the IRig Mic itself. The iRig Mic comes with its own mike stand clip and black carrying case making it easy to transport from place to place if needed. The iRig Mic has a sturdy build which includes a 1/8” cord that easily connects into the headphone jack of your iPAD and you’re ready to go! Last but not least and what stood out to me the most was the clarity of sound that I was getting from the iRig Mic which I felt to be comparable to even some of your higher end Shure microphones! I would definitely recommend the iRig Mic to any musician looking to get more out of their iPAD whether it is for hobby or professional use!
