Educational fun continues with the LeapPad2!

When LeapFrog released the LeapPad, we were one of the first families to get our hands on it. It was so new it was factory loaded with games so we could truly experience it! (Mind you it also had it’s share of bugs until we reset it with LeapFrog Connect)

This year, LeapFrog debuted the LeapPad2 – with some really awesome improvements! So far, we’re in love!

Here’s what I love:

1.) Front and rear cameras! Just like my iPad to the kids delight!

2.) An attachable battery pack! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. Even thought I bought a set of rechargeable batteries, we still went through them. Having an attachable battery pack is amazing and a must have accessory.

3.) It’s compatible with all of the Leapster Explorer (the new one) and LeapPad Explorer games. Awesome! Between the app store and cartridges there are hundreds of games to choose from!

4.) A faster processor than it’s predecessor and 4GB of memory

4.) Over 350 apps, including movies, games eBooks and more!

5.) Just like the original LeapPad, the LeapPad 2 is available and pink or green and it comes with a variety of skins and accessories.

It didn’t take long for Quincy to get the hang of the new LeapPad2, which, I admit, was intended for her brother. She’s a little young for it, as the recommended age is 3-9. This range is determined by what apps we choose to download. Right now, in addition to the Art Studio that she loves, I also added a few Sesame Street videos and some alphabet flash cards. She definitely needs help to navigate some of the games but she seems to be getting the hang of things, if the squeals of delight mean anything!

For an older child, there are more complicated games and activities to help them with the skills.

What’s really terrific is that no matter the age of your child, you can monitor their progress by syncing your LeapPad2 to the Learning Path via LeapFrog connect, and see exactly how well your child is doing. I really like that LeapFrog has this great feature, it really is beneficial to parents and caregivers.

A friend wanted me to point out that if you have little chewers in your life to watch out for the stylus. It’s metal underneath the plastic and can scratch the screen. She recommends supervised play with the LeapPad2 so this doesn’t happen to yours! We haven’t had this problem yet, but I thought it was important to share!
