Some of our favorite times are getting together with friends, so when I learned about Handcraft Wines and their campaign, Handcraft Heroes to raise breast cancer awareness, it seemed like the perfect excuse to invite friends over and enjoy a new wine. Friends, good wine, kids running around the backyard – it really was the perfect Saturday evening.

We had two wines to enjoy from the Artisan Collection. The Inspiration Red and the Inspiration White. We opened the Inspiration Red this evening and I must say, we were all pleasantly surprised. Now, I’ll admit, I am not a red wine person, my husband is. And while I didn’t try the Inspiration Red it had an amazing aroma. His verdict though? It had a flavor that could adapt well to things, a nice everyday wine.

TASTING NOTES: INSPIRATION RED
Encourage your inner inspirations whilesavoring a glass of this full-bodied and juicy red wine blend. Rich aromas of spice, blackberry and plum rise temptingly from the glass. On the palate, these jammy fruit characteristics are met by vanilla and a touch of sweetness from the perfectly ripe grapes. Tannins are bold and upfront – the perfect wine to sip on a cold winter’s night or alongside some good old fashioned BBQ.

I’ve stashed the Inspiration White away for a fall evening – something for my husband and I to enjoy after the kids have gone to bed. After reading the tasting notes, I’m really looking forward to it. I love sweet crisp wines and it sounds like the Inspiration White is going to be a winner! Maybe I’ll even invite friends over again.

TASTING NOTES: INSPIRATION WHITE
Pour a glass and enjoy the gorgeous aromas of bright citrus, honeysuckle, peach, apricot and green apple. Then savor a sip as you taste melon, nectarine and peach with a touch of lemon zest. This medium bodied wine is balanced with a hint of sweetness and crisp acidity—making it refreshing by itself or perfect with food. The finish is rich and juicy.

A different approach to breast cancer awareness.

I’ve only been indirectly affected by breast cancer. A friend, a neighbor, a teacher. I even have a friend who when she found out carried the breast cancer gene had a radical double mastectomy. I think she’s so brave to make a choice like that to help insure she’s around for her children.

Have you been impacted by breast cancer? You’re not alone. Third generation California vintner and former registered nurse, Cheryl Indelicato saw first hand the pain that breast cancer patients went through, and the turmoil of their loved ones.

In 2012, Cheryl launched the HandCraft Artisan Collection of wines with a personal commitment to donate $100,000 toward breast cancer research, prevention and awareness.

In 2013, Cheryl has continued the fight by supporting community based initiatives around breast cancer awareness and aiding those in treatment. As part of this vision, Cheryl has teamed up with Susan G. Komen 3Day National Spokesperson, Dr Sheri Phillips, to create the HandCraft Heroes campaign on Facebook. This initiative seeks to honor those individuals who share their time, talent, resources, and by their actions, inspire others to seek early detection for breast cancer as well as those who support patients who are ill and undergoing treatment. HandCraft Heroes will run from August 19 through September 30, 2013.

Individuals are encouraged to nominate themselves as a HandCraft Hero on the HandCraft Facebook page . Nominees will be evaluated by an independent team of judges chaired by Dr. Sheri Phillips, board certified physician, breast cancer survivor and Susan G. Komen 3Day National Spokesperson. Three winners will be selected to become HandCraft Heroes and will be honored at a private inspirational retreat hosted by Dr. Sheri and Cheryl in Monterey, California in February 2014. In addition, Cheryl will donate $2000 to the pink charity of each winner’s choice.Winners will be announced during Breast Cancer Awareness Month on October 15, 2013.
